Bright Dog Red Added to Winter Jazz Fest 2020

NEW YORK (OCTOBER 16, 2019): Organizers for Winter Jazz Fest, the #1 Jazz Festival in North America (JazzTimes Magazine), announced the 2020 Festival Lineup today to New York, US, and international press.

The festival, scheduled for January 9 – 18, 2020 at venues across New York City, will feature over 70 acts spanning every conceivable incarnation of contemporary jazz and improvised music. Artists slated to appear include Becca Stevens, Daedelus, Donny McCaslin Group, Heroes Are Gang Leaders Featuring James Brandon Lewis,. Kassa Overall. Kneebody, Makaya McCraven, Mark Guiliana, and Ron Carter.

Ropeadope recording artists Bright Dog Red (BDR) are among those acts named in the festival’s announcement. BDR, a collective of improvising musicians, fuses free improvisation, electronica, jazz, hip hop, psychedelia, and noise music. The version of the group set to appear at this year’s festival includes drummer and band leader Joe Pignato, alto saxophonist Eric Person, tenor saxophonist Mike LaBombard, electronic musician Cody Davies, bassist Anthony Berman, guitarist and bassist Tyreek Jackson, and rapper and poet, Matt Coonan.

BDR’s appearance marks the group’s debut at the esteemed festival. Pignato commented on the opportunity the booking represents for his fledgling ensemble, “BDR played its first gig just four years ago. To be added to this particular festival with this heavy lineup represents a real milestone for us.”

Bright Dog Red will appear on the weekend of January 10 and 11, the specific date, venue, and time of their set will be available shortly.
